Overview

Once Depict.ai is connected, the Dema Agent can work with your Depict data directly inside a conversation — search your products, browse your listings (collection and category pages) and the products ranked inside them, look up product cards with images, prices and variants, see search query suggestions, and pull recommendations such as cross-sell and products related to a search query. It can also list the markets and locales configured for your Depict store. All access is read-only — the agent never changes anything in your Depict account. The agent only acts when you ask it to.
Depict’s API offers read access only. The agent can read and analyse your Depict data, but it cannot edit merchandising rules, listings, or any other configuration in Depict. That is a limitation on Depict’s side.

Prerequisites

  • A Depict account with access to Settings → General in the Depict portal, where the API key lives — you may need an admin on your Depict account to open this page.
  • Your Depict merchant identifier — the store id Depict uses for your account. You will give this to the agent when you ask it something (see Ask the agent for Depict data).

Connect Depict.ai

1

Copy the API key in Depict

  1. In the Depict portal, go to Settings.
  2. Open General.
  3. Copy the API key.
2

Connect in Dema

In Dema, go to Agents → Settings → Integrations, find Depict.ai, and click Connect. Enter:
  • API Key — the key you copied from Depict.
Click Add. Dema marks the integration as Active.
To use Depict with an agent you created rather than the built-in assistant, open that agent and go to Configuration → Integrations. The API key is the only credential Dema stores — there is no client secret and no account URL to enter.

Ask the agent for Depict data

Depict serves several stores, markets and languages from the same API key, so the agent needs to know which store you mean. Name your Depict merchant identifier the first time you ask it something in a conversation:
From there the agent looks up the markets and locales configured for that store itself, and reuses the merchant identifier for the rest of the conversation.
Save the merchant identifier to your agent’s memory or include it in a scheduled prompt, so you do not have to repeat it every time.

Rotating the key

To rotate the key, generate a new API key in Depict under Settings → General, then click Reconnect on the Depict.ai integration card in Dema and enter the new key.

Troubleshooting

Check that you copied the full API key from Settings → General in the Depict portal, with no leading or trailing spaces. If the key has been regenerated in Depict since you connected, click Reconnect in Dema and enter the current key.
The Settings → General page may be restricted on your account. Ask an admin on your Depict account to copy the key for you, or to grant you access.
Tell it your Depict merchant identifier — the store id Depict uses for your account. It cannot be discovered from the API key alone. Once the agent has it, it can find your markets and locales on its own.
Confirm that the market and locale it used are ones your store actually serves — ask it which markets and locales your Depict store has configured, then repeat the question naming the right one.
That is expected. Depict’s API is read-only for integrations, so the agent can report on your Depict data but cannot change anything in Depict.
If you are still stuck, contact support with the error message you see.
