Why override product sets from reports?
While Segmentations in Dema allow for rule-based automation, there are times when manual overrides are necessary. For example:- Exclude specific products from being labeled by automated rules.
- Manually curate product sets based on real-time insights from your reports.
- Quickly adjust feeds for Google or Meta to reflect recent performance trends.
How to override segmentations from reports
Step 1: Set up your report
-
Create a report in Dema with Product ID as a dimension.
- This is required for the override functionality.
-
Add filters to narrow down the products you want to manage.
- For example, filter products with a Gross Margin > 50% or Impressions < 500.
Step 2: Add products to segmentations
-
Look for the “Add to segmentations” button in the top-right corner of your report view.
- This button appears once Product ID is included as a dimension in your report.
-
Click “Add to segmentations.”
- Select the product set where you want to add the filtered products.
-
Click “Manage in segmentations.”
- This action sends the selected products to the top of the chosen product set as a new rule.
How manual overrides work in product sets
-
Create a rule for the selected products.
- After adding products to a segmentation, a new rule is created at the top of the product set.
- All selected products are included in this rule.
-
Assign a custom label.
- You can apply a specific custom label (e.g., “High Margin Manual” or “Exclude from Feed”) to these products.
- This label will appear in your feed exports for Google or Meta.
-
Set an expiry date (optional).
- If the override is temporary (e.g., for a seasonal campaign), you can set an expiry date for the rule.
- Once expired, the rule is removed, and the products revert to being governed by automated rules.
-
Override priority.
- Manual rules added via reports are placed at the top of the product set.
- Rules at the top take precedence over all automated rules below. This ensures your manual selection overrides any existing criteria.
Practical use cases
-
Exclude products from automated labels.
- Let’s say you have an automated rule labeling all products with low impressions as “Low Impressions.”
- If there’s a product you want to exclude from this label, you can manually add it to the segmentation with a new label like “Exclude.”
-
Quickly adjust feeds for campaigns.
- After running a report, you identify high-margin products with low impressions.
- Add these products to a segmentation with the label “High Margin Manual” to increase bids in your feed campaigns.
-
Temporary overrides for seasonal promotions.
- Create a manual rule for products included in a holiday promotion.
- Assign a label like “Holiday Deals” and set an expiry date for when the promotion ends.
Best practices
-
Use manual rules sparingly.
- Manual overrides are powerful but can become unmanageable if overused. Prioritize automation whenever possible.
-
Revisit manual rules regularly.
- Ensure that expired rules are removed and that manual selections remain relevant.
-
Combine automation and manual overrides.
- Use manual rules as an exception handling tool to complement your automated segmentations.
-
Check rule order.
- Rules added from reports are placed at the top of the segmentation, ensuring they override lower-priority rules. Adjust rule order if necessary to achieve the desired behavior.
Combining manual and automated segmentations
Dema gives you the flexibility to:- Fully automate product segmentation with rules.
- Manually curate specific products from reports as needed.
- Combine both approaches for a balanced, efficient workflow.
Next step: Experiment with overrides by creating a report with Product ID as a dimension and manually adding selected products to a segmentation. Refine your workflows to achieve the perfect balance between automation and control.
